Curriculum

The Graduate School of Science, Technology and Innovation was established in April of 2016 and is an interdisciplinary graduate school aiming for the integration of the natural and social sciences.

We aim to cultivate future leaders who have learned the skills to promote R&D in advanced science and technology as well as the entrepreneurial skills to succeed in commerce.

We have interdisciplinary curriculums which have integrated natural and social sciences. The fields of natural science consist of Bioproduction, Advanced Membrane Science and Technology, Advanced Information and Communication Technology and Advanced Medical Science, which are positioned as Kobe University’s flagship research areas. The social science programs at Kobe University have also been recognized for their outstanding achievements. Overviews of each area are as follows;

  • Bioproduction
    Utilizing microbial processes, the goal is to realize a less dependent on fossil resources and a recycling-based sustainable society through the production of biofuel and bio-oriented chemical products from lignocellulosic plants.
  • Advanced Membrane Science and Technology
    The goal is to realize a resource-circulating society based on energy-saving and energygenerating processes with water purification and gas separation utilizing the membrane.
  • Advanced Information and Communication Technology
    The world-class research and development of information and communications devices and information technology applications utilizing High Performance Computing and IoT (Internet of Things).
  • Advanced Medical Science
    Promotion of the development of new methodologies leading to the novel clinical diagnosis and therapy, by utilizing innovative strategies such as iPS cells, computational simulation, and vaccine platform technologies, further using special medical industry zone in Kobe.
  • Strategic Entrepreneurship(Entrepreneurship, Strategy, Finance and IP Rights)
    Taking the advantage of being an interdisciplinary graduate school, we cultivate strategic entrepreneurs with science-background who are able to create a competitive enterprise with a global scope.

 

Our curriculums include a number of practical subjects. For example, every student makes their own business plan, students exercise industrial development using pilot plants, etc.

We conduct introductory lectures in every area of natural science in order to broaden students’ horizons beyond their own specialized areas.

Students can acquire a high level of expertise in their specialized areas and an interdisciplinary perspective based on fundamental knowledge of other areas as well as acquiring the basic knowledge and practices of social sciences, which are essential to create new businesses.
