I had the opportunity to attend the Metabolic Engineering 15 conference, which was held from June 11, 2023, to June 15, 2023, at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. I had the privilege of representing the Graduate School of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Kobe University, by presenting a poster showcasing my own research results.
The Metabolic Engineering Conference brought together leading researchers, scientists, and industry professionals from around the world to discuss the latest advancements and trends in the field of metabolic engineering. The conference featured plenary sessions, lightning sessions, rapid-fire talks, and around 400 poster presentations. My favorite sessions were, “Metabolic Engineering for Next generation medicine,” “Metabolic engineering for biomanufacturing: from lab to industry”, “Synthetic biology for metabolic engineering” and “New-to-Nature chemistry for metabolic engineering”. I was particularly interested to learn about the scientific works on carbon recycling technology, the diverse views on the impact of AI in metabolic engineering research among scientists, and also on new-to-nature natural product engineering.
A mentoring session named, "Lunch with a Legend" provided me with a unique opportunity to directly converse with an Industry leader (Lanzatech, USA) and a renowned scientist from Germany which was otherwise not possible. The opportunity enabled me to discuss my research and thereby receive direct feedback, not only on my further research but also on my career path ahead.
I have also had the opportunity to network and discuss my work with many international Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers from renowned universities and research institutes. I was delighted to discover that we all shared the same enthusiasm for research and could also engage in further discussions on potential opportunities.
Participating in this conference has significantly contributed to my overall development, particularly in terms of my presentation and interpersonal skills.
In a nutshell, ME15 was a very fruitful experience. I am extremely grateful to Kobe University for supporting my attendance at this conference and giving me the opportunity to learn about the latest research in metabolic engineering.
